The Theo Lacy Jail facility was expanded by creating three new “Pods”. Each pod was built one at a time and was awarded through three separate bids. The expansion process began in 1997 and concluded in 2005. Each pod consists of several different levels. All three pods added several hundred beds to the overall facility. High tech communications include touch screens and control boards with proprietary software features.
